Peter Wilkin lives in Lothersdale, North Yorkshire, England. His art is strongly influenced by his experiences & insights gained during a lengthy career as a psychiatric nurse & psychotherapist.
Any therapeutic journey, he believes, involves a search for the hidden self, a true representation of oneself that lies buried beneath a raft of protective mechanisms. It is this very concept that drives his art, as he deconstructs the original photographic image and burrows beneath the gloss to search for stories.
Creating images in this way, he explains, involves a willingness at some point to hand over the ‘brushes’ to the inner child. In these interludes of free play his imagination runs riot & the art becomes a fusion of honesty, curiosity & adventure.
