About Peter

Peter Wilkin

Peter Wilkin lives in Lothersdale, North Yorkshire, England. Working on his iPad, his artistic process combines iPhone photography, cyanotypes and vintage photographs with digital painting. On occasions he uses gilding (gold leaf) to enhance particular pieces.

His art is strongly influenced by experiences & insights gained during his lengthy career as a psychotherapist. “I would listen intently over several therapy sessions”, he reveals, “as the person’s story slowly unfolded and the whole picture gradually emerged.”

And so it is with his art, as his preliminary ‘snapshots’ gradually take on depth and detail. Each layer of paint added provides an extra dimension, enabling him to bring mood, emotions and an element of intrigue into his work.

Whilst each individual artwork provides a visual narrative of the subject matter, he is aware that the ‘story’ wrapped inside his image may not be the one that the viewer sees.

“They need to find something to connect with,” he explains, “something beautiful: a truth that resonates … or maybe a special memory is rekindled. Only then might it touch them deeply enough to want it in their home.”
